Dedicated Follower of Fashion

As promised at the end of yesterday’s post, here’s the design I’m considering sticking on some shirts. You can click on it for a larger version.

I’m posting this before I shell out any cash to see if it’ll be worth the expense. If you would absolutely pay $10 to wear a shirt with this on the front, I’d like to hear about it. You can either post in the comments or send me an email (whale [at] and I’ll make a decision around this time next week. It would also help me out if you included your t-shirt size. I doubt there’ll be enough to warrant it, but if you’d prefer a shirt style other than the standard 50/50 tee, it’s worth a shot to bring it up.

I’m not sure if I should include the URL on the shirt. It helps me as far as advertising goes, but I can’t decide if it looks dumb. Your opinions would be appreciated.

And for all the paupers in the heezy, circular stickers with a similar design and color scheme will be available for under a buck.

  1. Oh, that reminds me that I forgot to ask the fatties if the comic strip’s name would make any shirt with the words “Big Fat Whale” on it a no go.

Here’s my advice to those people: If I enjoyed a comic strip called “Diminutive Pugnacious Misanthrope,” I’d wear its name on my shirt, even though it also accurately describes my least flattering qualities.

  2. I would absolutely pay ten bucks to wear a shirt with the big fat whale on it. I’ve been hoping you’d make t-shirts for a while. If you can get it in a small, or even a kids large, that’d be great.
Keep up the good work, Brian. I only know what’s going on in the world because I have to look shit up so that I get your jokes.

  3. As a “fattie” I didn’t even really consider the name issue until it was mentioned. If there is actually a whale on it I think that kinda takes care of it. If it doesn’t, oh well. I love the whale and I think the URL is a good idea but I think you might want to reconsider the font. It seems kinda art deco-y to me and doesn’t seem to really match the whale

  4. it’s a pretty kick ass design
i’m only sad that it’s not the original big fat whale design it does look more like a whale though
    thumbs up for the url
    i need more oblique tees

  5. yeah, i’d pay for a tee-shirt, and as a fattie I take no offense. I personally prefer shirts with logos on the back, but i’ll be buying one either way. also I’m gonna need some stickers to plaster on my car as I’ve been told it’s back end is “boring” unlike my back end which is “flabby and disgusting”

  6. I like the font and design a lot. And you should definitely have your URL somewhere (on the back if nowhere else). Although I cannot promise to buy one, I only wear stretchy little tank tops and tight v-neck girly t-shirts, not big oversized man shirts… if it was a tank top, I’d buy it.

  7. Thanks to everyone who posted or sent me an email. I’ll probably get the shirts made once the mini-comic is all wrapped up, which is tentatively looking like the end of August.

If you haven’t weighed in yet, I’d still like to hear from you to get an idea of how many to order. Right now I’m planning on having 35 made, which will leave a couple for me to bring to SPX and will help create the illusion that BFW is bonafide.

  8. I would definately buy a shirt. $10 is not a lot for a t-shirt! And it has a kick-ass whale on the front.
